The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Music invites talented and creative individuals to express their interest in being considered for a one-year term appointment as an Assistant Professor of Clarinet.
Part of the top-ranked School of the Arts at VCU, the Department of Music is committed to the advancement of music as an academic discipline, as a field of professional endeavor, and as a significant expression of culture. Approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in the Department of Music. Students in the VCU Music community are immersed in a rich environment of studio lessons, small classes, independent study, and performances, master classes, and lectures. Their studies prepare them to be leaders and shapers of culture.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in Applied Clarinet, Woodwind Pedagogy, Woodwind Methods and Techniques, and other courses at the discretion of the Chair. Maintain an active performing career with the potential for development on a national and/or international level to complement and expand on existing expertise in the department. Serve on department, school, and/or university committees. Provide leadership in regional and national service organizations Recruit and cultivate prospective students.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a D.M.A. in Clarinet Performance or equivalent; ABD considered. Demonstrated success or potential for teaching in, and development of, a college-level music program; demonstrated potential for a robust research agenda and national leadership in clarinet performance; demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
